More on NFL Coaching...

The Chargers fired Marty Schottenheimer after a 14-2 season. Yet Marvin Lewis and the dismal Bengals continue their run at being the worst team in NFL history. How have 3 NFL coaches been fired before Lewis? What exactly is the criteria for a coach to be fired?

Not winning a game after half the season?
Multiple players with multiple serious off-field incidents?
No team chemistry whatsoever?
Consistent lack of improvement?

Honestly try and picture a worse situation than the Bengals right now. Tough, isn't it?

It's such a joke watching any press conference with Lewis... there's never any sense of urgency. He just looks way too relaxed considering the situation. I understand that they don't have Carson Palmer right now, but even when he was playing early this season, he put up some of the worst numbers in the NFL. And that team has way too much talent to be winless.

Imagine guys like Chad Johnson playing for Bill Belichick. Look what he's done to Randy Moss. You can see it when Moss talks at press conferences. A once brash man has become a scholar and a gentleman with manners (to be fair, he's getting older... but TO is old and still acts like a 5 year old)

While on the topic of coaching, have you ever seen more of a lame duck coach than Wade Phillips? Does that guy do anything? The Cowboys organization has been a soap opera since last year, and it should be the coach's job to keep that under control. Sure, they win games... but what team wouldn't with that massive O-Line, a barbarian of a RB, star WRs and a talented young gunslinger for a QB? Look what happens when they lose Romo... not so good anymore.

Let's talk about coaches that aren't lame ducks. How about a certain guy from New England... With a geriatric defense, a QB that hasn't started a game since high school, and no star RB, Belichick still has the Patriots in position to be "the team to beat" in the AFC East.

How about Jeff Fisher? He's got the guts to bench a guy who was on the cover of Madden and put in a QB who is in his mid 30s. And it was a damn good decision. Sure, they have the fastest 40 runner in history and a sickly good defense, but big moves like the one he made with Young/Collins are what separate real coaches from lame ducks, and if he didn't make the move, they'd still be underachieving.

Unlike baseball, football is a sport where coaching matters.

And I just wanted to add that Mike Singletary kicks ass.
